West Anglia Routes Group Responds to Department for Transport Franchise Consultation

With the early end of the current franchise for the West Anglia Routes, the Department for Transport is consulting on the specification of the new franchise, which is due to start in April 2011.

The West Anglia Routes Group response makes it clear that by the end of the next franchise, there should be a 7 day, 4 train per hour service, from early in the morning to late at night, across the West Anglia Routes; using new, fit-for-purpose rolling stock which is accessed via safe, well maintained and accessible stations.

To achieve this there are a number of short term improvements that can be made, particularly to stations and trains.  However a significant up-shift in capacity and reliability on the West Anglia Routes, will only be achieved if partners, including the franchisee, are committed to investment in longer term infrastructure improvements.
