New Carriages for the West Anglia Routes

On 2nd April there was an announcement by the Secretary of State that DfT have agreed a franchise variation with National Express East Anglia, which includes the procurement of 120 new carriages for replacement and lengthening of Stansted Express services.
The investment in new rolling stock was welcomed by the West Anglia Routes Group. However there are concerns about Stansted services exclusively benefitting from the new carriages and the condition of existing carriages (which will be used to lengthen other services). There is also still a need for new high capacity rolling stock for inner suburban services.
