Following a number of key announcements in the past year, the annual West Anglia Routes Group politicians' briefing event (held in Parliament on 1st July '08), was an opportunity to update elected members and stakeholders on recent progress and discuss key priorities going forward.
The event was hosted by Sir Alan Haselhurst MP and chaired by Cllr George Meehan, and was well attended, with over 40 delegates from along the length of the West Anglia routes. There were key note presentations on the ongoing case for investment and, from National Express East Anglia and Network Rail, on plans for future improvements.
The presence of Tom Harris MP, Undersecretary of State for Transport, sent a positive message about the Department for Transport’s commitment to the West Anglia Routes, including the speedy delivery of the new carriages allocated in January’s Rolling Stock Plan.
The Group will be continuing its discussions with the DfT and National Express East Anglia about the details of carriage allocations and their specifications, ensuring that commuter needs are fully recognised.
On four tracking of the mainline, the message from Network Rail was generally positive, although work will continue to make the case for improvements as soon as possible along the line from Broxbourne to Coppermill Junction.
Altogether it was a positive and useful event, however work continues on making the case for investment, which requires ongoing participation and support from all stakeholders. For more information please see associated documents or contact us.
